Class of 2020!

Add Your unique Voice to this Collection of Narratives and Memories of
Graduating in the Time of Coronavirus

The Westport Library and WestportVoices are launching an oral history project to record and preserve the voices and stories of the Class of 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic.

If you are a Staples High School Senior, or a Westporter graduating from another high school, we would like to invite you to contribute to the collection – to share what you think about this unprecedented time.   Your experiences and perspective are important – not just for your classmates and our community now - but to document for the future.  This is such a transitional time in your lives, happening during a moment of incredible upheaval and disruption in our town, the country and the world.

We think it’s vital to capture how you’re experiencing all of this.  So, we would like to invite you to be interviewed (remotely) or to create your own submission in whatever media you prefer.

Send a note to Robin Weinberg (robin@westportvoices.com) or Brody Braunstein (Staples ’20) (brody.braunstein@gmail.com) for more information and to get involved.

Interviews will be conducted and submissions accepted until June 30th, 2020.

Here’s how you can participate:

  • Volunteer to be interviewed about your experience.   These will be conducted via Zoom (or something similar) and will last about 30 minutes.  You’ll have a lot of control over how the conversation goes.  These are your stories to share the way you want to share them.

  • Write or create something describing your experiences during quarantine.  It could be any story or perspective you think would be a valuable or interesting addition to the collection.  Feel free to submit an audio or video recording if you prefer.

  • Take pictures of what life looks like and means to you now and write a brief explanation.

  • Become an Interviewer.  We will hold a virtual interview training session on Friday, May 29th at 12pm.  Request the zoom link and RSVP by emailing robin@westportvoices.com.  We ask that you commit to interviewing at least 2 of your classmates after the training session.

This summer, we will create a short video from some of your stories, dedicated to the Class of 2020.  This video will be shared with all of you and our town, and will become part of the Westport Library’s permanent collection.

We will also preserve, for now and the future, the video and all of your submissions in a digital archive here.
